St Catherine's College

LEATHERSELLERS' COMPANY GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP 2002

St Catherine's College proposes, if there is a candidate of sufficient merit, to elect a Leathersellers' Scholar with effect from 1 October 2002.

The Scholarship will be to the value of £2,000 a year and will be tenable for up to three years. It may be held in conjunction with another award and is open to anyone reading for their undergraduate degree at any British university who wishes to undertake research in the Physical or Biological Sciences, Mathematics, or Engineering.

St Catherine's has a large and thriving Graduate Common Room, and single accommodation is avail-able in College for Scholars for the duration of the Scholarship (at the current room charge rate). Limited Senior Common Room dining rights are also granted to Scholars. There are fifteen College-owned flats nearby suitable for couples, some of which can also accommodate children.

Applicants must complete an Oxford application form if they have not already done so, and they may wish to place St Catherine's as their College of first choice. The form should be sent as soon as possible to the Graduate Admissions Office as directed. When the dossier is complete, it will be sent to the relevant Faculty or Department for consideration. If accepted, it will then be passed on to the College of first choice. Candidates who have already completed an Oxford application form do not need to amend their choice of Colleges in order to be eligible to apply.

There is no application form for this Scholarship. To apply, please write to the Tutor for Graduates, St Catherine's College, Oxford, OX1 3UJ (e-mail admissions@stcatz.ox.ac.uk), with a curriculum vitae and proposed area of research at Oxford. Means of financial support should be stated. In addition, candidates should arrange for two people acquainted with their recent academic work to send a confidential report direct to the Tutor for Graduates before the closing date.

The closing date for applications is Thursday, 25 April 2002, and the College plans to interview short-listed candidates as soon as possible thereafter. Nominations will be submitted to the Leathersellers' Company in May 2002.
