AWARDS BY OUTSIDE BODIES

Arthritis Research Campaign

PH.D. STUDENTSHIPS

The Arthritis Research Campaign is pleased to announce that four prestigious Ph.D. studentships will be awarded in 2002 to encourage outstanding young science graduates to embark on a research career in rheumatology. The awards will be tenable for three years from 1 October 2002 with a tax-free stipend currently of £13,851 (in London) and £11,708 (outside London) in the first year, with annual increases thereafter. The basic tax-free stipend will be reviewed in July 2002. Applications are invited from candidates who hold or expect to hold a first or upper second class Honours Degree in a subject relevant for the following projects:

1. Hypoxia-induced osteolysis: role of extracellular nucleotides. Dr Tim Arnett and Professor Geoffrey Burnstock, Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology, University College London, Gower Street, London, WC1E 6BT (tel. 0207 679 3309, e-mail t.arnett@ucl.ac.uk).
