The Council have considered the remarks made by Dr Evans at the Discussion of this Report on 8 June 1999 (Reporter, p. 759). They have noted her comments on the arrangements for promotions to personal Professorships and Readerships and on the scheme of supplementary payments for Professors; since these are both matters which fall within the remit of the General Board, the Council will ask the Board for their comments on the questions that she has raised. They will themselves give consideration to these matters in due course, and to the other points made by Dr Evans in her remarks, in the light of the General Board's comments.
Since these issues are not directly relevant to the main purpose of the Council's Report, which is the approval of the University's budget for the coming financial year, the Council are submitting a Grace to the Regent House (Grace 8, p. 800) for the approval of the recommendations of the Report.
