University offices: Vacancies

The University follows an equal opportunities policy and has a policy on arrangements for part-time work.

Applications are invited for the following University offices:

University Lecturer in the Department of Radiology

University Lecturer in the Department of Radiology (Nuclear Medicine or Radionuclide Radiology) to take up appointment from 1 January 1999, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful applicant, who will be recommended for an honorary consultant contract with the Addenbrooke's NHS Trust, will be required to undertake teaching, research, and clinical work. The appointment will be for five years, with the possibility of reappointment to the retiring age.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is £20,107 a year rising by eleven annual increments to £31,010 a year. There is no grade of Senior Lecturer. The successful candidate will be eligible to receive an additional payment for clinical responsibility related to the amount of clinical work undertaken. If, as expected, the Lecturer undertakes the equivalent of six or more NHS sessions a week of clinical work the payment will be such as to bring his or her total pensionable emoluments into line with a point on the NHS salary scale for consultants (£44,780-£57,800; £45,740-£59,040 from 1 December 1998).

University Surgeon in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine

University Surgeon in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine to take up appointment from 1 October 1998, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be expected to provide didactic and practical teaching and a referral clinical service in small animal orthopaedic surgery. Other areas of speciality may be acceptable.

Applicants for this office must be Members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons or be eligible for membership. They must also either hold an advanced Diploma in Surgery (e.g. RCVS, ECVS or ACVS) or be eligible to sit the certifying examination. The appointment will be for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of reappointment to the retirement age.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Surgeon is £34,464 a year.

Administrative Officers in the University Offices (General Board Division)

Administrative Officers, Grades I or II, in the University Offices (General Board Division) to take up appointment as soon as possible. The appointments will be made in the following areas:
(a) Planning and Management Information,
(b) Faculty administration in the humanities and social sciences.

Candidates should have appropriate administrative experience. Each appointment will be for three years, unless the Council waive this requirement in which case the appointment will be for a period not exceeding five years. Reappointments are for periods not exceeding five years at a time, provided that an Administrative Officer may be reappointed to the retiring age when he or she has reached the maximum of the scale of stipends for the grade. The appointments will be made at either Administrative Officer, Grade I, or Grade II level, depending on the successful candidates' age and experience, and the duties of each office.

The pensionable scales of stipends for Administrative Officers are:

Grade I: £21,815, rising by five annual increments to £26,523.
Grade II: £18,275, rising by six annual increments to £23,651.

Computer Officer, Grade III, in the Department of Engineering

A Computer Officer, Grade III, in the Department of Engineering to take up appointment on 1 October 1998, or as soon as possible thereafter. The Appointments Committee concerned hope soon to be in a position to appoint to this office.

The successful applicant will join the Department's Computer Systems Group, which currently consists of twelve Computer Officers and is responsible for the Department's computer systems and network comprising over 1,500 systems. Members of the group have specific areas of expertise and responsibility but are expected to contribute to other areas of the group's work when the need arises. The main role of the Officer will be to provide technical support and system administration for a number of IBM PC compatible and Apple Macintosh computers used for teaching and research in the Department. The majority of these systems are organized in three Novell networks, each with around twenty machines. A good degree or equivalent qualification and proven ability in this area are required. Experience of Novell Netware and/or TCP/IP networking would be useful. The appointment will be for three years, with the possibility of reappointment for periods not exceeding five years at a time.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a Computer Officer, Grade III, is £18,275 a year, rising by six annual increments to £23,651 a year.
