Re-imagined: Vaughan Williams and the Tudor Revival

Sat 9 November

St Mary’s Church

Vaughan Williams' grand Mass in G minor for unaccompanied choir is a landmark piece of 20th century choral music. It was born out of his deep engagement with the music of the Tudor period - music which was simultaneously being rediscovered and performed at Westminster Cathedral, under its maverick music director, R R Terry.

?Terry was responsible not only for the commissioning of Vaughan Williams' mass, but for encouraging music by Howells, Holst, and Bax, whose flowing lines and intricate writing were influenced by the Renaissance masters.

New Cambridge Singers present an opportunity to hear these epic choral works alongside the intimate choral and organ music of William Byrd which inspired them. And we bring things right up to date with a startling re-imagining of Byrd's famous Ave verum corpus, by the renowned baritone and composer, Roderick Williams.

Cost: £15
