Join CSD Brass (Cambridge & Surrounding District) for their Spring Concert in a programme of original works for brass band, in the perfect setting of St Luke's Church

A concert by Gabriel Cano, flute, and Guillaume Moix, piano

Sat 24 February 2024

Clare Hall

Programme:
Poulenc Flute Sonata

Martin Ballade

Sancan Sonatine

Schumann 3 Romances

Reinecke Sonata Undine

About the concert:
This programme, performed by Gabriel Cano, former principal flute in the Simon Bolivar Orchestra, weaves together some of the best works of flute and piano repertoire, which are also some of the best known works of their respective composers. The Poulenc Sonata is probably one of the most often heard and is a work of irresistible charm. The Ballade by Franck Martin is in stark contrast; it is a brooding and anxious work, typical of the style of its author. Sancan’s Sonatine is a delightful piece, somewhat under the influence of Ravel. We then turn towards Germany with the three Romances by Schumann, originally written for oboe. The programme concludes with Reinecke’s Sonata Undine, without a doubt the best loved work of a somewhat obscure composer, who was yet a central figure in 19th century Germany.

Cost: £10-20
