‘The care of books is a difficult business’: The legacy of Francis Jenkinson

Fri 6 October 2023

Cambridge University Library

Spanning more than three decades, Francis Jenkinson's service as Cambridge University Librarian between 1889-1923 coincided with significant expansion of the Library's collections and changes to the broader university landscape. In the centenary year of his death, Cambridge University Library is holding a symposium in his memory, with a programme of talks by researchers, curators and librarians. Reflecting on Jenkinson's scholarly, professional or personal life, eight speakers will provide a critical assessment of his legacy and prompt discussion of how his work might inform the future development and direction of research, libraries and their collections.

The programme includes a display of manuscripts and printed books. Refreshments and lunch will be provided and the event will conclude with a drinks reception.

Cost: Standard - £40, Student - £15
