Masterpieces for Tenor and Horn

Sat 7 February

Clare Hall Dining Hall

Performed by Alessandro Cortello (tenor), Darren Bloom (conductor), and a student ensemble, this ambitious programme features masterpieces written for the tenor and horn. Beethoven’s An die Ferne Geliebte is the first song cycle ever written. Brahms composed his Horn Trio shortly after his mother’s death, which explains the atmosphere of melancholy that pervades the work. Britten’s Serenade is one of the most effective works ever penned by the composer, a haunting nocturne meditation based on the works by six English poets.

Programme:
Beethoven An die Ferne Geliebte
Brahms Horn Trio
Britten Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings

Cost: £5-20
