Endellion String Quartet, 'Resident Quartet', University of Cambridge with Emma and Joy Lisney
Wed 24 April 2019
West Road Concert Hall
ENDELLION STRING QUARTET ('Resident Quartet', University of Cambridge) with Emma and Joy Lisney (guest violin and cello)
BEETHOVEN String Quartet in D major Op.18 No.3
DVORAK String Quartet in E major Op.80
BRAHMS String Sextet No.2 in G major Op.36
Dvorák’s E major quartet is full of freshness and invention and Beethoven’s early Op. 18 No.3 quartet is one of his most good-humoured, warm and youthful. The third piece in this concert will be the second of Brahms’s string sextets which is much-loved by string players and audiences alike. The extra bass and lower middle voices give the ensemble a warmth and colourful richness which is natural to Brahms who sounds completely at home in this medium. Joy and Emma Lisney are two eminent and highly talented sisters who are both studying or about to return to studying at Cambridge University despite already making their mark in the music profession.
