Lunchtime Concert - Songs of a Night Wanderer

Sat 21 February

Wolfson College

This recital weaves together songs written for tenor and piano to reflect on our wandering thoughts during sleep. Ivor Gurney’s ‘5 Elizabethan Songs’ depicts our appreciation of the natural world, the peace we derive from it to sleep easy, and of new life awakening, and is paired with Benjamin Britten's 'Cradle Song' and a premier of Tom Williamson's 'Night Wanderer'. Rebecca Clarke's 'Shy One' and Frederick Delius's 'Twilight Fancies', amongst others, reflect on distractions from sleep and thoughts that keep us dreaming on.
