Festival of Arts, Science & Ideas

Sat 2 July 2022 - Sun 3 July 2022

Newnham College

Newnham College since 1871: 150 years of pioneering, inspiring, supporting, sharing … 150 years of ‘witty and rebellious’ women speaking their minds.

For one glorious summer weekend, Newnham's beautiful gardens will host our 150th Anniversary Festival of Arts, Science and Ideas. You’ll hear big ideas from leading thinkers, have the chance to try new activities, meet old friends, make new ones, hear some great music – or relax in a shady deckchair with a G&T.

There's something for all generations to enjoy, with fabulous family activities from star gazing to an 'oarsome' rowing challenge.

The Festival is open to everyone and we welcome all members of our community and beyond to join us.

Here’s a taster of what you might enjoy:

Talks – on topics such as historic art, archaeology, black holes, the Fitzwilliam Museum in World War II, particle physics, 150 Years of Newnham, life and times of principals and diplomats, why writing change my life, why is philosophy inhospitable to women and women’s health…

Workshops – on portrait drawing, poetry, Indian dance and art…

Performances – musicians, composers and dancers...

Family fun – from crazy golf and stargarzing to face painting and Newnham’s first dog show…

Conversations – about writing, the environment, entrepreneurship and education…

Tours – of the gardens, the architecture, art and archives…

Exhibitions – exploring our history and future…

Food trucks and picnics under the apple trees…

Friendship – arrange to meet old friends, and come ready to make new ones.

If you can’t make it to Cambridge, we’ll be showing films and selected events online.

Cost: Free entry tickets (pay for food and parking)
