A concert by baritone Morgan Pearse and pianist Amit Yahav

Sat 10 February 2024

Clare Hall

Programme

Schubert Die Schöne Müllerin
Barber Hermit Songs

About the concert

Baritone Morgan Pearse and pianist Amit Yahav present two song cycles by two of the most gifted song composers. Schubert’s Die Schöne Müllerin is based on poems by Wilhelm Müller. This song cycle, one of the longest in the literature, narrates the infatuation of a young man for a miller’s daughter, infatuation which will drive him to despair, and ultimately, death. Samuel Barber's Hermit Songs, "based on comments written on the margins of medieval manuscripts by Irish monks, are infused with a modal harmonic language of great stylistic integrity; they led William Schuman to hail Barber as an unmatched art-song composer."

Cost: £10 – £20
