The Really Popular Book Club: The Northern Lights
Tue 8 December 2020
The Really Popular Book Club is a new and exciting series hosted by Cambridge University Library, where everyone is invited to join our guest author to discuss a really popular book, one that we all know and love.
For our first ever club meeting what better place to start than exploring the theme of young adult fiction with a childhood favourite, The Northern Lights; Philip Pullman’s first book in the His Dark Materials trilogy.
The guest author joining us to discuss the book will be John Owen Theobald, a novelist and BAFTA Rocliffe winning screenwriter, and author of the best-selling Ravenmaster Trilogy novels. Facilitating the discussion between John and the audience will be Laura Greenfield, the Library’s Deputy Director for External Engagement.
John will first provide a personal reflection of how Pullman’s stories have influenced and inspired his own passion for writing. Afterwards, we will be opening the floor up to you, our club members, to share your own observations and remarks, and to ask John and Laura any questions you might have about The Northern Lights.
Registration is required. Full Q&As and registration details can be found here: https://www.lib.cam.ac.uk/plan-your-visit/whats/really-popular-book-club-northern-lights.
