Piano concert by Tyler Hay
Sat 9 November
Clare Hall Dining Hall
Tyler Hay is a remarkable pianist, a truly original personality, known for his bold approach to programming, refined musicianship, and his formidable technique. For this concert, he is presenting two monumental sonatas, both inspired by Goethe’s Faust, introduced by little known miniatures.
If the Liszt Sonata is one of the most often heard works from the composer, the Rachmaninoff first sonata has long been overshadowed by the more famous second. However the tables are turning, and in recent years, a growing number of performances by major pianists has revealed a fascinating work, demanding both for pianists and audiences, both rewarding in equal measure. The second movement, in particular, is one of the highest inspirations of its author.
Programme:
Rachmaninoff Fragments, Sonata in D minor op 28
Liszt En rêve, Sonata
Cost: £5-20
