Join art historian Sarah Burles for an online afternoon talk on collection artist Henri Gaudier-Brzeska (1891-1915). The talk will put Gaudier-Brzeska’s work at Kettle’s Yard into a wider context as well as discussing Jim Ede’s determination to see him “recognised as one of France’s greatest sculptors”.

“It is on Gaudier-Brzeska that both Ede’s career and the existence of Kettle’s Yard is founded” wrote Christopher Neve in 1972.

The work of Henri Gaudier-Brzeska remains at the heart of Kettle’s Yard: the Dancer Room is named after his dynamic sculpture, his drawings fill the attic and his iconic dog sits on the stairs. This talk will chart the brief and tumultuous life of Henri Gaudier-Brzeska, his early years in France, the move to London with Sophie Brzeska, his encounters with the British avant-garde and the work he created before he was tragically killed in the First World War.
