Online Talk – The Furniture and Hidden Objects of Kettle’s Yard

Thu 15 April 2021

Kettle's Yard House and Gallery

Join Andrew Smith, one of our long-serving Visitor Assistants and our resident furniture enthusiast, for a talk on the often-overlooked pieces of furniture and hidden objects in the Kettle’s Yard House. The talk will look at some of the fascinating stories behind these pieces and why they are so important to Kettle’s Yard.

The talk will look at the often-overlooked furniture in the Kettle’s Yard House and the hidden or unnoticed way Jim Ede related art and objects. You will learn about the history of various pieces of furniture, how Jim acquired them and how the furniture in the House complements the space. From the fireback hidden in the blackness of the sitting room’s fireplace to the relationship between a L.S Lowry painting and an adjacent Windsor chair, this talk will be a fascinating insight into how the quiet and subtle ways furniture and lesser-noticed objects contribute to the character of Kettle’s Yard.

Cost: £15 (£12 Friends, £5 Students), booking required
