Sandars Lecture 2: A jigsaw with no edge pieces

Wed 12 November 2025

Robinson College

As collections continue to grow, how do archival collections within and across institutions relate to one another like the pieces of a never-ending jigsaw? The second Sandars lecture by Joan Winterkorn MBE will explore the “archival coalface”, from first encounters with the material, to the process of discovering an archive’s story and finding it a home.

The talk will showcase historical and contemporary collections acquired and preserved by British libraries over the past fifty years, including materials related to Siegfried Sassoon, Laurence Olivier, Winston Churchill, Muriel Spark, and Francis Crick.
