ONLINE COURSE The (unexpected) role of plants in medicine

Thu 1 April 2021

online

Many plant-derived compounds have been used as drugs, either in their original or semi-synthetic form, but plants also have an unexpected role to play in drug development. Despite the advances in drug discovery aided by molecular modelling, combinatorial chemistry, and other synthetic?chemistry methods, natural product derived compounds are still proving to be an invaluable source of medicines for humans. This evening talk will cover many different plant derived conventional medicines – digging deep into the stories that are perhaps better known to uncover more detail as well as highlighting the unexpected roles that plants play in the development of others.
