INSTITUTIONS RECOGNIZED UNDER STATUTE H

APPROVED SOCIETIES

Homerton College

1.Homerton College shall be recognized as an Approved Society with effect from 1 September 1977.

2. Homerton College shall be empowered

  1. (a)to present for matriculation, to enter as a candidate for any examination leading to the degree of B.Ed., and to present as a candidate for that degree, a member of the College in statu pupillari who at the end of his or her first year of study in the College has passed a qualifying examination conducted by the College for such candidates;
  2. (b)to present for matriculation a student who has been approved for admission to the College as an undergraduate, to enter such a student as a candidate for examination leading to the degree of B.A., and to present him or her as a candidate for that degree;
  3. (c)to present for matriculation and to enter as a candidate for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education a candidate approved for admission under the regulations for the Certificate;
  4. (d)to present for matriculation a student approved for admission under the regulations for the M.Ed. Degree, to enter such a student as a candidate for the M.Ed. Examination, and to present him or her as a candidate for the M.Ed. Degree;
  5. (e) to present for matriculation a student approved for admission under the regulations for the M.St. Degree, to enter such a student as a candidate for the M.St. examination in any subject approved by the Council for this purpose, and to present him or her as a candidate for the degree;
  6. (f)to present for matriculation Graduate Students, and to present Graduate Students approved by examination and by the Board of Graduate Studies for the degree concerned;

provided that the College shall not present for matriculation in any one year

  1. (i)a number of students who are candidates for the B.A. and B.Ed. Degrees greater than 210, and
  2. (ii)a number of candidates for the Postgraduate Certificate in Education greater than 500, and exceptionally, in a transitional period, greater than 650, and
  3. (iii)a number of candidates for the M.Ed. Degree greater than 25, and
  4. (iv)a number of candidates for the M.St. Degree greater than 25.

3. Except as provided in Regulation 2 and except in so far as the Council upon application from the College shall have waived, in respect of a particular student, one or more of the following restrictions, Homerton College shall not

  1. (a)enter a student as a candidate for any examination leading to any degree or for any certificate or diploma of the University;
  2. (b)present a candidate for any degree other than the degree of M.A. or any degree conferred by incorporation.

4. Every student admitted to Homerton College with a view to matriculation in a later term shall, as a condition of admission, sign a declaration that he or she agrees to be bound by the disciplinary regulations of the University as if he or she were a member of the University.

5. Any term in which a member of the College in statu pupillari has resided within the Precincts of the University before the term in which he or she matriculated shall be deemed not to be a term kept by residence for the purpose of Statute B, III, 5. Any such term shall be deemed for the purpose of Regulation 1 for motor vehicles and of Regulation 5(3) for the use of the University Library to be a term kept by residence, but shall not be so deemed for the purpose of any other Ordinance.

6. For the purpose of assessing the stipend of a University officer residence in Homerton College shall be deemed to be residence in a College.

7. Regulation 2 of the regulations for the Precincts of the University and residence shall be applicable as if the term ‘College’ included Homerton College.

8. No alteration shall be made to the Instrument and Articles of Government of Homerton College unless the College has given the University notice of the proposed alteration and either the University has granted its consent or the Council have announced that the proposed alteration does not affect the University or prejudice the interests of the University.
