regulations for examinations

The General Board give notice that, on the recommendation of the Faculty Board or other authority concerned, the regulations for certain University examinations have been amended as follows:

Education Tripos, Part II

SCHEDULE 2 (SUBJECTS AND PAPERS FOR SECTION IV OF PART II OF THE EDUCATION TRIPOS)

With effect from 1 October 2009

Mathematics

The subject 'Mathematics' has been retitled as 'Mathematical Sciences' with revised requirements as follows:

Mathematical Sciences

A candidate wishing to offer a single paper in Mathematics may offer one of the following options:
either (a) the equivalent of one paper from Part IB of the Mathematical Tripos; candidates will be required to answer questions from all four papers from Part IB of the Mathematical Tripos;
or (b) a written report of between 8,000 and 10,000 words, or the equivalent, on an approved topic in Mathematics Education;
or (c) the paper 'History of Science' from Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos;
or (d) the paper 'Philosophy of Science' from Part IB of the Natural Sciences Tripos.

A candidate wishing to offer two papers in Mathematics may offer one of the following options:

either (e) any two of the papers offered in options (a)-(d) above;
or (f) the equivalent of two papers from Part IB of the Mathematical Tripos; candidates will be required to answer questions from all four papers from Part IB of the Mathematical Tripos.
