PHILOMATHIA FELLOWSHIP AND COLLEGE LECTURESHIP IN POLITICS

The College invites applications from suitably qualified candidates (Ph.D. Degree or equivalent) for a College Lectureship in Politics (linked to the University courses taught in the Faculty of Politics, Psychology, Sociology, and International Studies). Applicants are welcome from all relevant subject areas in politics and developmental studies, with a particular interest in a strong research record and teaching experience in the politics of international development. Expertise in the political economy of Africa is desirable but not required.

The successful applicant will be elected to a Fellowship and will be expected to teach undergraduate students (in small groups) in core politics and/or economics papers for twelve hours a week (over the twenty weeks of the academical year), and assist in supervising, directing studies, and undergraduate admissions. He or she would also be expected to contribute to undergraduate teaching in the Department of Politics and International Studies (POLIS), including optional papers such as the Politics of Security and Development, and/or World Politics. The ability to deliver effective class and tutorial teaching and supervision for the Department and the College is therefore essential, along with good communication and organizational skills.

The appointment will take effect from 1 September 2009 and no later than 1 October 2009, for three years in the first instance. An earlier appointment date might be negotiated. The starting stipend for this post will be in a range between £32,400 and £34,500 on the University scale for academic appointments.

Applications, including a curriculum vitae, a statement of research, and the names and contact details of three referees, should be addressed to the Master by 17 April 2009. It is anticipated that the final interviews will be held in early May. Further particulars are available on the College website (http://www.trinhall.cam.ac.uk/about/current_vacancies.asp), or from Anna Walford, Trinity Hall, Cambridge, CB2 1TJ (tel. 01223 332540, fax 01223 765157, email aw235@cam.ac.uk).
