FELLOWSHIP AND COLLEGE LECTURESHIP IN FRENCH

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a College Lectureship in French and a Fellowship at St John's College, tenable for three years in the first instance, to begin on 1 October 2009. Candidates with a research interest in any field of French literature and culture since 1789, including film, will be considered for the post.

The successful candidate will be expected to undertake up to twelve hours of small group teaching a week during Full Term, to engage in scholarly research, and to assume a role as the College's Director of Studies in French. The pensionable stipend will be in the range of £27,183 to £35,469 a year, with the usual additional privileges and responsibilities of a Fellowship, which include assistance with research expenses and meals at the Fellows' table.

Applications, including a full curriculum vitae and three references, should be addressed to the Senior Tutor and submitted to his Secretary, Denise Fear, at St John's College, Cambridge, CB2 1TP (tel. 01223 339658, email tutorial@joh.cam.ac.uk), by Monday, 2 March 2009. Further particulars may also be obtained from Mrs Fear or from the College website (http://www.joh.cam.ac.uk/).

COLLEGE RESEARCH ASSOCIATES

St John's College intends to appoint two College Research Associates during the Easter Term 2009. Candidates must be of postdoctoral standing, and may be graduates of any university. They must hold awards made in a national or international competition (for example, Royal Society University Research Fellowships, British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellowships, Research Council Fellowships, Wellcome Trust Career Development Fellowships) for the purpose of conducting research in the University of Cambridge or at an associated institution. No conditions of age or subject are attached to these positions, but the successful applicants are likely to be within six years of having completed the requirements for the Ph.D. Degree (or equivalent).

Candidates will be selected by reference to their ability to contribute to the intellectual, educational, and social life of the College. While no stipend or honorarium is payable, a number of collegiate benefits apply. Successful candidates will take up their College Research Associateships from 1 September 2009.

Further particulars, and details of how to apply, may be found on the College website (http://www.joh.cam.ac.uk/).
