Magdalene College

CHAPLAIN FELLOW

The College proposes to appoint a Chaplain (with election to an Official Fellowship) from 1 September 2009. Applications are invited from graduates who are ordained priests of the Church of England (or of a Church in full communion with it) and who have suitable academic qualifications and interests. The principal duties of the Chaplain are to conduct services in the College Chapel, and to provide pastoral care for all members of the College and its staff. The Chapel is supported by people from many different traditions, Catholic and Protestant, members of all denominations, and none. In addition to promoting the ecumenical atmosphere, the Chaplain will also be expected to maintain and encourage the strong choral tradition, and, if appropriately qualified, to contribute to teaching for a Tripos.

The tenure of the post is for three years in the first instance, with the possibility of renewal for a further period. The stipend is linked to the Ely Diocesan scale for incumbents, and rent-free accommodation will be provided, in a nearby College house. Applications (seven copies), including a curriculum vitae, a brief account of why the post is attractive to the candidate, and the names of three referees, should be sent by 6 February 2009 to the Master's Secretary, Magdalene College, Cambridge, CB3 0AG (tel. 01223 332144, fax 01223 365150, email jeh34@cam.ac.uk), from whom further particulars may be obtained. Applicants should ask their referees to send their references to the Master's Secretary also to arrive by 6 February 2009. Informal enquiries may also be made to the Chairman of the Chapel Affairs Committee, Professor Eamon Duffy, D.D., FBA (email ed10000@cam.ac.uk).
