Herchel Smith Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (five posts): Notice

The Managers of the Herchel Smith Postdoctoral Research Fellowships Fund invite applications within the general fields of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or Molecular Genetics (reference HSFBC001), Experimental Physics - energy and sustainability (reference HSFEP002), and Inorganic Materials Chemistry (reference HSFIMC003).

All Fellowships are to be held at the University from 1 October 2009 or otherwise by negotiation. Fellowships are available for between two and three years and provide an opportunity for independent research, although the holders will usually work in close collaboration with established research groups.

In accordance with Dr Smith's will, candidature is limited to candidates who have completed their Ph.D. Degree, or equivalent, within the last three years at any university, but normally excluding Cambridge and Harvard.

The stipend will be on the University's Postdoctoral Research Associate scale, currently between £25,888 to £33,780 a year (pay award pending). Fellows receive additionally £10,000 a year as a research allowance.
