Stanley Baldwin Fund: Notice

Statutes and Ordinances 2008, pp. 716 and 726

Under the regulations governing the Fund the Managers are empowered to:

(i) provide one or two studentships to any Graduate Student pursuing or intending to pursue in the University a course of study or research in the field of British political history in the years 1919 to 1939;
(ii) to make grants to Graduate Students working in the field of British political history in the years 1919 to 1939.

The Managers give notice that they wish to invite applications for these awards.

Eligibility
Studentships

A candidate must be a Graduate Student pursuing or intending to pursue in the University a course of study or research in British political history in the years 1919 to 1939.

Grants

Candidates must be Graduate Students in the University working in the field of British political history in the years 1919 to 1939. Grants will only be considered if they are required to assist in meeting the expenses of research consistent with the object of the Fund. Preference will normally be given to Ph.D. students.

Studentships

Application forms for Studentships can be downloaded from the Faculty's website: http://www.hist.cam.ac.uk/pgadmissions/funding/trustfunds.html, or requested from the Accounts Office, Faculty of History, West Road, Cambridge, CB3 9EF. The closing date for the receipt of applications is 14 May 2009. Late applications will not be considered. Candidates should invite their referees to write to the Secretary to the Managers of the Stanley Baldwin Fund in support of their application by the same date. In addition an applicant who is not already a Graduate Student in the University of Cambridge should write to the Secretary of the Board of Graduate Studies, 4 Mill Lane, Cambridge, CB2 1RZ, requesting application forms for admission to the University as a Graduate Student.

Grants

Application forms for grants can be downloaded from the Faculty's website: http://www.hist.cam.ac.uk/pgadmissions/funding/trustfunds.html, or requested from the Accounts Office, Faculty of History, West Road, Cambridge, CB3 9EF. Applications should include details of the research project for which support is sought and of the expenses incurred, together with a statement of any other source of assistance to which application has been made and also the names and addresses of two referees. Application forms should be sent to the Secretary to the Managers of the Stanley Baldwin Fund at the Faculty of History by 14 May 2009. Applicants should invite their referees to write to the Secretary in their support by the same date.

Value of the awards
Studentships

A Studentship will provide supplementary support only, and the value of each Studentship will be determined by the Managers, after taking into consideration the amount of any other emoluments received by the applicant. The maximum value of a Stanley Baldwin Studentship is £3,600 for the academical year. However, awards in individual cases may be made at considerably lower levels. A Studentship will be tenable for one academical year in the first instance and may be renewed for a period of one year at a time, subject to a maximum tenure of three years.

Grants

The value of grants awarded are at the discretion of the Managers of the Fund.
