UNIVERSITY LECTURER IN NUMERICAL ANALYSIS

The Mathematical Institute proposes to appoint a University Lecturer in Numerical Analysis with effect from 1 October 2008. The successful candidate will be appointed to a Tutorial Fellowship at Exeter College under arrangements described in the further particulars. The combined University and College salary will be on a scale up to £52,628 a year.

The Lecturer will be based initially in the Computing Laboratory, but will move to the Mathematical Institute with the Numerical Analysis Group when the Institute's planned new building is completed, probably in 2011. The post is intended to provide additional strength to help build up the group and its links with Mathematics in preparation for the move.

The appointee will be expected to have a research record in Numerical Analysis and Scientific Computing consistent with the international standing of the Mathematical Institute and the Computing Laboratory. Applications with expertise in numerical optimization are particularly sought but candidates in all areas of specialization will be considered, including high-performance computing and applications of all kinds. The appointee will also be expected to have the ability to teach effectively over a wide range of topics in the undergraduate mathematics syllabus at Oxford, not exclusively in the area of her or his research expertise.

Further particulars, containing details of the application procedure and of the duties, may be obtained from the Administrative Assistant (Vacancies), The Mathematical Institute, 24-9 St Giles', Oxford OX1 3LB (vacancies@maths.ox.ac.uk) or by visiting http://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/notices/vacancies/.

The closing date for applications is 30 April 2008. Please quote reference number BK/08/008.
