The Cambridge Union Society

BURSAR

In order to meet the challenges of managing a 193-year-old institution in the 21st Century, the Trustees, the President, and the Standing Committee of the Cambridge Union Society have decided to appoint a candidate to the newly created post of Bursar. The position will consist of the hands-on management of the Society's finances, and the administration, running, and upkeep of its facilities and premises.

The successful candidate, who will have relevant managerial and administrative experience, will lead a small team, be able to work closely with the Society's elected student officers and committees, and have the full confidence of the Trustees. The candidate will have strong interpersonal skills and an enthusiasm for working with young people. As the Society has not had a Bursar for a number of years, an initial challenge will be to define the full range of responsibilities, taking account of the Society's charitable status.

Although the post is envisaged as full-time, applications would be considered from candidates willing to work three or four days a week, should they have a proven bursarial background. The ideal candidate would also be willing to work flexible hours and to be in attendance at the Union for some evening events. The full-time salary will be in the range £40,000 - £45,000 depending on experience. An immediate start date is preferable. Applications should be sent to secretary@cambridge-union.org by 7 May 2008.
