Sixth Annual Disability Lecture and Workshop: Notice

The Sixth Annual Disability Lecture and Workshop will be held on Tuesday, 29 April 2008, at the Fisher Building, St John's College.

Places are available for the workshop Engaging Disabled People which will look at new ways to meet the University's legal responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act 2006 in relation to consulting with disabled people - staff and students. It will also look at the role of support groups in supporting disabled people. The workshop is open to those from within and outside the University and speakers include Derek Child, Head of Equality and Diversity at the Open University, and presenters from the National Autistic Society. For a booking form please send an email to staffdev@admin.cam.ac.uk.

The workshop will be followed by our lecture, given this year by Baroness Jane Campbell, a Commissioner and Disability Committee Chair on the Commission for Equality and Human Rights entitled Fighting for a slice or for a bigger cake? Moving from identity politics to consensus action. Baroness Campbell became an Independent Crossbench Peer in 2006. She is an independent health and social care policy adviser, and Chair of the Office for Disability Issues (ODI) Independent Living Review Expert Panel. She was a Commissioner of the Disability Rights Commission (DRC) from its inception in 2000 and is the recipient of two honorary doctorate degrees.
