Director of the Health and Safety Office in the Human Resources Division of the University Offices

The University's Health and Safety Office is a key unit, with a remit to provide high-quality services to assist the University and its staff in developing health and safety policy and practice, and to oversee operational health and safety management.

An experienced individual is sought to lead the Office. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a successful record of leading a sizeable, complex, and high-profile service delivery operation and possess excellent management capabilities, alongside proven and well-developed interpersonal skills in order to interact with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders. The vacancy arises because of the retirement of the previous Director of Health and Safety, Mrs Sara Cooper.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level, at the very least will be a Chartered Member of IOSH, and will have other relevant senior safety qualifications as well as having substantial experience of leadership at an appropriate level. While experience of the Higher Education sector would be helpful, the Appointments Committee will welcome applications from outside the sector.

Further particulars are available from Mrs Angela Paradise, Interim HR Director (email ap553@admin.cam.ac.uk). Applications, comprising a curriculum vitae with telephone contact details and a covering letter and PD18 (Parts I and III) including the names of three referees, should be sent, by post or email to the Interim HR Director, Human Resources Division, The Old Schools, Trinity Lane, Cambridge, CB2 1TN (email ap553@admin.cam.ac.uk). The closing date for applications is 30 April 2008.

The University values diversity and is committed to equality of opportunity.
