RESEARCH LIAISON OFFICER IN THE MATHEMATICAL INSTITUTE

Applications are invited for the position of Research Liaison Officer. This is a newly created post funded for an initial period of up to five years starting on 1 May 2008 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The remit of the position is to support interdisciplinary research collaborations involving a significant mathematical and/or statistical content and to undertake research in the mathematical sciences. The post-holder will promote and support such interdisciplinary research collaborations from initial contact through to applications for funding. Collaborations will be targeted both within Oxford's Mathematical Physical and Life Sciences Division (MPLS) and externally, with other Oxford Departments and with industry, making this an outward rather than an inward looking role. The post-holder will also reinforce connections with industry in the context of Master's courses in the new Knowledge Transfer Account (KTA) framework. Working co-operatively with peers and senior colleagues, the post-holder will be involved in developing strategic objectives and implementing the plans to realize those objectives.

The post-holder will be part of the Research Facilitation team based in the Mathematical Institute and report on a day-to-day basis to the Institute's Research Facilitator (currently Dr Chris Breward).

The successful candidate should have a record of undertaking independent research in mathematics or statistics at an advanced level and knowledge of funding sources for such research. Excellent organization, team working, and written and oral communication skills are essential together with the ability to deliver training events, build networks, and promote interaction. Experience of scientific applications in an industrial context would be an advantage. The starting salary will be in the range £33,779 to £40,355.

Further particulars may be obtained from vacancies@maths.ox.ac.uk and at http://www.maths.ox.ac.uk/notices/vacancies/. Applications, including a letter of application setting out how applicants meet the selection criteria (see further particulars), supported by a curriculum vitae and the names and addresses of two referees should be sent to the Administrative Assistant (Vacancies), Mathematical Institute, 24-29 St Giles', Oxford, OX1 3LB by noon on 26 March 2008 (e-mail applications are acceptable).
