LIBRARY AND ARCHIVES GRADUATE TRAINEE

Magdalen College is seeking a graduate for a one-year internship in its Libraries and Archives. This one-year full-time post (8 September 2008 to 4 September 2009) is an unusual opportunity for someone who wishes to gain experience of both library and archives work before pursuing further qualifications.

All applicants should have a first degree and serious intentions of pursuing a career in professional librarianship or archives work. It is expected that the successful candidate will apply to library or archives school during their year at Magdalen. The Graduate Trainee's time will be divided between the College Archives and Libraries, where there will be a variety of training and duties, such as answering queries, cataloguing, setting up exhibitions, learning conservation methods, and assisting with general administration. Training will include formal short courses, e.g. in IT skills, depending on the Trainee's particular interests.

The salary will be £14,069 a year. Benefits include optional contributory pension scheme, generous holidays, and use of sports facilities.
