Theological and Religious Studies Tripos, 2008, Parts IIA and IIB

The Faculty Board of Divinity give notice that, with effect from the examination to be held in 2008, the form of the examination for the Theological and Religious Studies Tripos will be changed as follows:

Paper B6. Belief and practice in the early Church

The examination will take the form of a three-hour written paper consisting of two sections. Candidates will be required to answer four questions, including at least one from each section. Section A will contain questions on the recommended primary texts. Section B will contain questions on selected forms of the practice of Christianity.

Paper C3. New Testament christology

The examination will take the form of a three-hour written paper. This will contain at least ten essay-type questions, of which candidates will be required to attempt three. NRSV Bibles and Greek New Testaments (Nestle-Aland 27th Edition) will be made available to candidates who wish to use them.

Paper C4. Religion, power, and political society

The examination will consist of a three-hour written paper, divided into three sections. Sections A and B will correspond to the prescribed topics; Section C will contain questions of a comparative nature, requiring candidates to draw together the component elements of the course. Candidates will be required to attempt four questions, at least one from each section.

Paper D2(f). Topics in Christian ethics

This paper will be examined by a three-hour examination. The paper will contain at least twelve questions, divided between Sections A and B. Section A will contain questions relating to the development of the tradition of moral theology. Section B will contain questions relating to the challenges to this tradition posed by developments from the nineteenth century onwards in understandings of humanity, society, and philosophy. Candidates must answer four questions, and at least one from each section.
