Balliol College and the University of Oxford

TUTORIAL FELLOWSHIP AND TITULAR CUF LECTURESHIP IN GREEK LITERATURE

The College seeks to elect a suitably qualified applicant to a Tutorial Fellowship in Greek Literature, to be held in conjunction with a Titular CUF Lectureship in the Faculty of Classics of Oxford University. The appointment will begin from 1 October 2008, or as soon as possible thereafter. The Fellow will be responsible, jointly with the Fellows in Latin Literature, Ancient History, and Philosophy, for the organization of College teaching in Classics and its Joint Schools with Modern Languages and Oriental Studies; and will teach tutorials and classes in Greek and Latin literature for all undergraduate years. He/she will also be expected to carry out advanced research, and to contribute to lecturing, examining, and graduate supervision for the Faculty of Classics. The post is permanent, subject to satisfactory completion of a review of the initial five-year period of office; this review is intended to be a constructive one, is non-competitive, and most post-holders in Oxford complete it satisfactorily.

The salary for the post will be on grade 10a (£39,159 to £52,628 a year, as of 1 August 2007) of the University's new pay and grading structure. Substantial housing allowances are available for the first six years of a Fellow's appointment; Balliol also operates a Joint Equity Scheme to assist Fellows in the purchase of a house.

TUTORIAL FELLOWSHIP IN ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY IN CONJUNCTION WITH A TITULAR UNIVERSITY LECTURESHIP (CUF)

The Faculty of Philosophy and Balliol College invite applications from suitably qualified candidates for the above post starting 1 October 2008. Applications in all areas of ancient philosophy are welcome. The Fellow will be expected to provide teaching in the core Ancient Philosophy papers offered by Oxford undergraduates and will also be expected to provide teaching in other areas of Philosophy (see the further particulars for details) and to take part in advanced research and graduate supervision. The post is permanent, subject to satisfactory completion of a review of the initial five-year period of office; this review is intended to be a constructive one, is non-competitive, and most post-holders in Oxford complete it satisfactorily.
