Under-Librarian (Head of Science Information Services) in the University Library

Applications are invited for the post of Under-Librarian (Head of Science Information Services), to provide leadership of two science libraries' teams and for the management and development of services to support the research, teaching, and learning needs of the relevant academic departments. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the two libraries provide high quality services, which are user-focused, flexible, effective, and efficient, in both the physical and virtual environments.

Candidates should have a good honours degree, a professional qualification in librarianship or information science, together with relevant experience of large academic libraries. The successful candidate will also have excellent managerial, organizational, and communication skills with an excellent understanding of current trends and developments in science information services. The salary will be in the range of £33,779 to £42,791 a year.

Administrative Officer in the Academic Division of the University Offices (Student Administration and Records Section)

Applications are invited for the post of Administrative Officer in the Academic Division of the University Offices (Student Administration and Records Section). The post-holder will lead the team of staff responsible for maintaining aspects of the student record, supervising their work and monitoring standards. He/she will work with the members of the Section, and with colleagues in the wider University community, in the management of the student record, the fulfilment of certain statutory returns, and in contributing to the development of aspects of the new student record system and the student administration structure. The salary will be in the range of £23,692 to £27,466 a year.

Good IT and communication skills, and the ability to work to tight deadlines are essential. The successful candidate will have relevant administrative experience, perhaps in higher education.

Director of Agronomy Research at the University Farm

Applications are invited for the post of Director of Agronomy Research at the University Farm. The Farm consists of a Potato Agronomy group and a commercial farming business of 900ha. The Agronomy Group currently consists of four senior scientists, one junior scientist, and four technicians in addition to the Director. It conducts research in the UK, Europe, and the USA, drawing its funds from research grants, commercial contracts, and consultancies. The research programme involves breeding and variety evaluation, soil management, water use, crop nutrition, epidemiology and control of diseases and pests, physiology of bruising, processing quality, and the development of integrated crop management systems.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. Degree or equivalent, must be experienced in one of the constituent disciplines of agronomy, and should have an established national and international research reputation and publications record. The successful applicant will be responsible for (i) maintaining research innovation in all areas of agronomy, (ii) developing research by attracting funds through new initiatives and further collaboration with current sponsors, and (iii) developing systems of crop and environmental management for practical use. The salary for the post is £49,607 to £57,508 a year, with initial place on appointment determined according to qualifications and experience.

Investment Director in the University Investment Office

Applications are invited for the post of Investment Director within the Investment Office, reporting to the Chief Investment Officer and working closely with the Investment Board. The Investment Office oversees the management of the investments of the University and is responsible for the main University Endowment Fund (currently £1billion) and other investments of around £250m.

The role will involve: assessing information regarding, and forming considered views on, asset classes, investment strategies, other investors, and market conditions, with special emphasis on the alternative and illiquid investment strategies; supporting the construction and oversight of an asset allocation and risk management framework for the Endowment; building relationships with leading investment managers, carrying out due diligence on these managers; and monitoring of invested relationships; managing the work of one or more investment officers and analysts. The salary will be in the range of £45,397 to £48,161 a year.

The successful candidate will have a strong academic background, a track record of professional success, be analytical, authoritative, and have good judgement, and is likely to have significant trading or investment management experience, and be well versed in modern portfolio theory and other quantitative techniques as well as alternative investments. Direct experience of illiquid asset classes, such as property, real assets, or private equity, will be a strong advantage, especially if the candidate has existing relationships with leading managers in these areas. He/she will need the knowledge, experience, maturity, and flexibility to deputize for the Chief Investment Officer on internal University business and external conferences.

Marketing Manager in the Institute of Continuing Education
