SHERARDIAN PROFESSORSHIP OF BOTANY

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from October 2008, or such later date as may be arranged. The post is to be filled in anticipation of the retirement of Professor H. G. Dickinson in September 2009.

The Sherardian chair was established in 1734 and is one of the most prestigious in the UK. It is the intent of the University to appoint an individual with research interests in any area of plant science that will complement existing strengths. The successful candidate will have an international research reputation in plant science; evidence of dynamic, forward-thinking, and feasible future research plans; the ability to produce, and communicate effectively, lectures for undergraduate and graduate students; experience of raising funds from outside bodies to run a major research group; managerial and organizational expertise, including experience of developing academic strategy and of financial management; and the ability to contribute effectively to ensuring the long-term development of the subject, and to maintaining interest in the subject in Oxford and its wide recognition outside. ALLEN & OVERY PROFESSORSHIP OF CORPORATE LAW

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 January 2008 (or as soon as possible thereafter). The Professorship will be held in the Faculty of Law, and is attached to a non-stipendiary Professorial Fellowship at Jesus College. The post is permanent, and is generously supported by Allen & Overy for at least the first four years. The Professor will be expected to engage in research and to lecture and give instruction in corporate law. He or she will have an outstanding record of research and publication and extensive experience of teaching at graduate level and of supervising higher level research. Specifically, he or she will have expertise in the law governing corporate associations. The University welcomes applications from candidates who specialize in particular areas such as corporate governance, corporate finance, or corporate insolvency. Comparative interests and expertise in Commonwealth, American, European, or other systems of corporate law will be an advantage, as will expertise in allied fields of English law.

ACTION RESEARCH PROFESSORSHIP OF PAEDIATRICS

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 October 2008 on the retirement of Professor Richard Moxon, FRS. Oxford is internationally recognized for the excellence of its biomedical research and has a well-developed Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust child health service in a new Children's Hospital, with research-active and research-enthusiastic consultants. The successful candidate will conduct high-class clinically relevant research within this environment which is part of the new NIHR Oxford Biomedical Research Centre. Preference will be given to candidates who are clinical practitioners but non-clinicians are also very welcome to apply. PROFESSORSHIP OF PHYSICAL GEOGRAPHY

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from as early a date as may be arranged. The Professorship will be held in the School of Geography, Oxford University Centre for the Environment (OUCE), and is attached to a non-stipendiary Fellowship at St Hilda's College.

The University is seeking an outstanding scholar, with an international reputation for research in one or both of the substantive fields of biogeography and climate change. The Professor will be expected to engage in research and to lecture and give instruction in one of both of these fields. He or she will be able to provide academic leadership and to demonstrate teaching excellence at undergraduate and graduate level. The successful candidate will have a successful record of obtaining research funding and the ability to manage a substantial research team.

DEPARTMENTAL LECTURESHIPS IN THE HUMANITIES DIVISION

Departmental Lecturer in History and Politics of Modern China

Applications are invited for the two-year fixed-term post of Departmental Lecturer in the History and Politics of Modern China, to start on 1 January 2008. This post is a replacement teaching post.

The person appointed will have research interests in some aspect of the History and Politics of Modern China, and will be required to teach undergraduate students on Government and Politics in China (contemporary politics), to teach and supervise graduate students on the M.Phil. in Modern Chinese Studies, and to offer classes on China in War and Revolution 1890 to 1949 (late Qing and Republican history). The post comprises some examining duties. Some additional tutorial teaching will be required, for which extra remuneration will be made. The salary will be £26,666 (fixed due to funding restraints).

Departmental Lecturer in the Anthropology of China

Applications are invited for a two-year Departmental Lectureship in the Anthropology of China. This is a fixed-term post, tenable from 1 January 2008 (or as soon as possible thereafter) to 31 December 2009. Applicants should have, or expect to hold by the start of the appointment, a doctorate on Modern China in social or cultural anthropology; experience of teaching and examining in a related field at university level; and a proven command of spoken and written modern Chinese. The Departmental Lecturer will be required to give tutorials, lectures, and classes during each full term; examine and engage in advanced study or research. The salary will be in the range of £26,666 to £32,796 a year.

POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS (PRF) IN ECONOMICS

Postdoctoral Research Fellows (PRFs) are part of the Department of Economics' Early Career Development Scheme and are primarily for candidates who have recently completed their doctorate. The principal purpose is to allow individuals to develop their research portfolio and to gain teaching experience. A PRF is an ideal step in the career development of young academic economists before taking up a more permanent teaching position.

The Department intends to appoint a number of PRFs from 1 October 2008, tenable for a fixed-term period of three years. Candidates must have been awarded their doctorate by the date they take up an appointment.

Consideration will be given to candidates with interests in any area of economics. A proven research ability is a necessary condition for an appointment to be made. The salary will be in the range of £26,666 to £32,796.
