SUB LIBRARIAN - PARKER LIBRARY

Applications are invited for the post of Sub Librarian for the Parker Library, one of the most important research collections of rare books and manuscripts in Britain, principally created by Archbishop Matthew Parker (1504-75).

The successful candidate will be a qualified librarian, with experience in a rare books environment. The main tasks are: supervising manuscript readers; vetting of new readers; answering general and bibliographic enquiries; selecting, ordering, and processing of new accessions; maintenance and supply of photographic copy to scholars and publishers. Online cataloguing of existing stock will be a priority.

Experience of a computerized library management scheme is desirable and knowledge of Latin would be useful. This is a job share, two-year fixed-term, part-time position, working 22.5 hours over three days. Flexibility of working hours is essential.

THE COOKS' LECTURE

Ticket-holders are reminded that the first Cooks' Lecture, entitled My genes make me eat that, will be given by Professor Steve O'Rahilly, M.D., FRCP, FRCPI, FRCPath, FRS, FMedSci, Professor of Clinical Biochemistry and Medicine at Addenbrooke's Hospital, at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, 16 October, in the McCrum Lecture Theatre, Bene't Passage. The Responder will be Prue Leith, celebrity cook, author, and Chair of the School Food Trust. It is regretted that no further tickets are available.
