Payments to Examiners and Assessors: Notice

1. The General Board have recently reviewed the payments made to Examiners and Assessors (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 225). The fees and payments were last revised in 2003. Increases are now proposed as laid out in Annex 1. As part of their review, the Board took into account concerns raised by Faculties and Departments, and new or revised forms of examinations.

2. The Board have noted that rates of payments to Examiners and Assessors have historically been low and that measures must now be taken to redress this. They have agreed to an immediate doubling of all rates of payments to internal Examiners and Assessors for the examinations completed from Lent Term 2007. Rates of payments to External Examiners were revised in line with national rates in the last review and remain at appropriate levels.

3. The General Board have therefore recommended to the Council that Regulation 3 of the regulations for payments to Examiners and Assessors should be revised as set out in Annex 1 attached to this Notice, with effect from 1 January 2007. The Council has agreed to submit a Grace to the Regent House (Grace 4, p. 517) for the approval of the revised regulations.
