Ph.D. Studentships in Nineteenth-Century Studies: Notice

The Cambridge Victorian Studies Group, in association with the Leverhulme Trust, intends to award three Ph.D. Studentships which will cover University tuition fees at home/EU rates and a maintenance award of approximately £12,300 a year for three years from October 2007. Overseas applicants are welcome but would need to find supplementary funding to cover the differential between home/EU and overseas fees. Students will work on the project, Past vs. Present: Abandoning the Past in an Age of Progress, alongside five Research Directors and six Post-doctoral Fellows. Those working on any relevant aspect of British culture 1789-1914, including but not limited to the History of Science, History, Theology, Classical Tradition, Egyptology, Literature, Cultural Studies, Anthropology, Music, Archaeology, Art, and Museology, are invited to apply. Candidates may have already started work on a Ph.D. but may not be further than one year into their Ph.D. research by October 2007. Candidates must make two applications: (1) to the Cambridge University Board of Graduate Studies for admission to the Ph.D. (for further information, see http://www.admin.cam.ac.uk/univ/gsprospectus/applying/, and the website of the relevant Faculty or Department); (2) to the Cambridge Victorian Studies Group for the Studentship (for further information, see http://www.victorians.group.cam.ac.uk/current_vacancies.html). Both applications must be made by 2 February 2007. Queries not addressed by these web pages may be sent to enquiries@victorians.group.cam.ac.uk.
