Christ's College

COLLEGE LECTURESHIP AND FELLOWSHIP IN ENGLISH

Applications are invited for a College Lectureship in English, associated with a Fellowship of Christ's College. Applications are welcome from candidates working in any field of English Literature post 1500. The Lectureship will be for a fixed term and tenable from 1 September 2007 to 1 August 2012, or for a similar period with dates to be agreed. The successful candidate will be elected to a Fellowship and will be expected to reside in Cambridge, to undertake at least eight hours of teaching a week for the College during Full Term (160 hours a year), to act if and when required as College Director of Studies in English, and to participate in interviews for the admission of new students. He or she will also be required to undertake research. Candidates should be able to teach a wide range of topics covered in Parts I and II of the Cambridge English Tripos.

The initial stipend for the Lectureship post will be at an appropriate point within the range of £23,457 to £31,524, if the Fellow is not resident in College, or between £19,938 and £26,796 if the Fellow is resident in College. The basic stipend may be supplemented by additional teaching, which will be paid for at the normal hourly rates for College teaching. Fellows of the College are entitled to the use of a room or rooms (if resident in College) free of rent and charges and to seven free meals a week in College. Residential accommodation is available in College for single occupancy. Otherwise, residential accommodation may be available in a College flat (for which a rent will be charged), in which case a room will be provided in College for teaching and other academic purposes.

Letters of application (no forms) should be sent to the Master's Assistant, Christ's College, Cambridge, CB2 3BU, to arrive by 26 January 2007. These should include a curriculum vitae with details of qualifications, publications, and experience, and the names and addresses of two persons who have agreed to act as academic referees. Applicants should arrange for their referees to write directly to the Master's Assistant so that references are received by the closing date of 26 January. Short-listed candidates will be asked for copies of written work and will be interviewed in March 2007.
