Administrative Officer, Grade I (Senior Finance Adviser), in the University Offices

Applications are invited for the post of Senior Finance Adviser in the Finance Division of the University Offices. The Financial Planning and Analysis team have responsibility for preparing budgetary information and providing financial advice, management information, and support to Departments across the University (total turnover is approximately £460m). The post-holder will provide support to a specific portfolio of Departments, respond to demands, and be pro-active in identifying potential problem areas, suggesting corrective action, where applicable. This will involve working closely with staff at all levels across the University.

The successful applicant will have excellent communication, analytical, and IT skills and be a strong team player. He/she will ideally be recently qualified or working towards a recognized professional accounting qualification, and will have three years' experience, preferably in a large organization. The salary will be in the range of £28,767 to £34,655 a year (subject to review).

Radiation Protection Officer in the Health and Safety Division of the University Offices

Applications are invited for the post of Radiation Protection Officer in the Health and Safety Division (HSD) of the University Offices. The Health and Safety Division is a 22-strong team that plays a vital role in the life of the University, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for this vibrant community.

Dynamic and proactive, the post-holder will fulfil the strategic role of Laser Protection Adviser to the University, and will provide the principle advisory resource for the uses of other non-ionizing radiations. Additionally, the post-holder will support the University's Radiation Protection Advisers in the provision of strategic and operational advice to the University and to Departments, in terms of the use of ionizing radiations in research and teaching. The salary will be in the range of £28,849 to £38,772 a year, and contributory points up to a maximum of £42,367 may be achievable.

Self motivated, well organized, and computer literate, the successful applicant will be an experienced communicator who can effectively deliver training, handle conflict, and secure commitment to radiation safety. The role is a senior position which demands persuasion, persistence, and an understanding of the academic environment. The post-holder will actively draw up safety policy and procedures, and will initiate, lead, and co-ordinate enquiries into accidents and incidents where radiations are involved. The role will include leading or participating in established systems of inspection and safety auditing within Departments, to assist HSD in identifying a range of practical control measures, and promoting their use.

A graduate, preferably in the Physical Sciences, the successful applicant will have experience of working for several years with the application of radiations in research and teaching in the Physical or Biological Sciences. He/she will have successfully completed a postgraduate training course in laser safety management, such as that provided by the Health Protection Agency/University of Loughborough, and will have achieved, or expect to achieve within the next year, accreditation as a Laser Protection Adviser under a scheme equivalent to that administered by RPA2000 and the Society for Radiation Protection. He/she will also be willing to work towards accreditation as a Radiation Protection Adviser, under a scheme approved by the Health and Safety Executive for this purpose.

Fund-raising Facilitator (part-time) in the School of Technology

Applications are invited for the post of Fund-raising Facilitator (part-time) in the School of Technology, for five years, with effect from December 2006. The salary will be in the range of £24,161 to £31,525 a year, pro rata.

The role of Fund-raising Facilitator will be essential to the School's success in the University's 800th Campaign. The post-holder will work with senior academics to develop, lead, and implement strategies for engaging potential donors, departmental supporters, and alumni. Applicants should have a good university degree, a minimum of five years' fund-raising experience, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with people at all levels. The successful applicant will be a highly organized and articulate self starter.
