St Edmund Hall

DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT, WITH SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITY UNDER THE 'CAMPAIGN OF CAMPAIGNS' FOR SOCIAL SCIENCES

This role provides the opportunity to work with a College that traces its history back to 1280, and at the heart of Oxford University, with the chance to share in the vision of the Social Sciences Division of the University.

With responsibilities divided equally between St Edmund Hall and the Social Sciences Division, the post-holder will report to the Principal of St Edmund Hall and the University's Director of Development. Key relationships will also be developed with senior members of the College, Head of Development for Social Sciences, and senior members of the Development Office and Alumni Relations teams. The post is based in St Edmund Hall and the University's Central Development Office, where accounting, database, research, and proposal-writing support services will be provided. Opportunities exist for career development within the University Development structure.

In fund-raising for projects, applicants will need a good grasp of the major sources of philanthropic funding (individual, trust, and corporate) and the key sources of non-philanthropic funding for the University sector. The post-holder will be involved in identifying major prospects and creating and executing prospect plans for each one.

Key requirements for this post include an ability to plan strategically, to identify and work with professional and academic colleagues in the cultivation of prospects and in the solicitation of major gifts, and a talent for maintaining donor interest in St Edmund Hall, the Social Sciences Division. and the University as a whole. The successful candidate will be an experienced fund-raiser able to represent the University at the highest levels. His/her experience will ideally have been gained in the not-for-profit sector.

The successful applicant's drive and determination for success will be evident, as will his/her ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Communication and relationship-building skills will be key strengths, as will the ability to provide advice and guidance on a specialist area to other development professionals, academics, and donors. A passion for excellence in higher education is essential.
