STIPENDIARY LECTURESHIP IN HISTORY

Keble College invites applications for a Stipendiary Lectureship in History for one year with effect from 1 October 2006. The successful candidate will be expected to provide six hours of tutorial teaching for undergraduates a week, averaged over the twenty-four week academical year. The Lecturer will be required to teach a range of post-1800 papers in British and/or General History for the Preliminary and Final Honour School papers, and will also be involved (in conjunction with others) in teaching Approaches to History, Comparative History, and Historiography. An ability to teach a Further Subject, and/or an Optional Subject, and/or a Special Subject would be welcome, but is not required. In addition to teaching duties, the Lecturer will be expected to set and mark College examinations, and to assist colleagues with the routine administration of Politics and the pastoral care of undergraduates reading History and associated joint schools.

The post might suit someone who is about to complete or has recently completed a doctoral thesis. There is no age limit for applicants. This post could be held in conjunction with another similar post. The salary is on an annual scale of £10,022 (2005-06 rates). The Lecturer will be entitled to six free meals a week during full term, the use of a computer, and a shared teaching room. In addition, the post-holder will receive an academic allowance of £212 and a student entertainment allowance of £398 for the purpose of entertaining undergraduates.
