University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £25,565 to £39,452 a year.

University Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacology

Applications are invited for a University Lectureship in the Department of Pharmacology with effect from 1 January 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department offers excellent facilities for teaching and research, and has particular interests in cardiovascular biology, cell signalling, neurodegeneration, structural biology, and synaptic mechanisms. Applications from candidates with research interests in any relevant area of biological science would be welcomed.

Senior Assistant Secretary (Director of Finance and Administration) at the Institute of Continuing Education

Applications are invited for the post of Director of Finance and Administration at the Institute of Continuing Education. The Director of Finance and Administration is a member of the Senior Management Team of the Institute and plays a key role in the work of the Institute by overseeing all matters of financial management and accounting, together with central administrative services, and by contributing to the strategic development of the Institute's work. It is expected that the successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with a good university degree, will have experience of working within an educational or academic environment, and will have proven managerial and communication skills. Energy, flexibility, and the ability to think strategically are essential qualities. The salary will be £45,417 a year. Administrative Officer, Grade I (Deputy Security Adviser - Planning), in the Security Office

Applications are invited for the post of Deputy Security Adviser in the Security Office. Reporting to the University Security Adviser, the post-holder will play an essential part in the development, management, and implementation of new strategic security policies, with an emphasis on compliance with specific legislation as it affects the University. As well as supporting the University Security Adviser, the post-holder will act as a source of expert advice to Senior Officers and Heads of Faculties and Departments. Candidates should be able to demonstrate considerable knowledge and skills gained in a senior position within the security industry or other similar body, and have excellent management, organizational, communication, and presentation skills with a good level of computer literacy. The salary will be in the range of £27,929 to £33,666 a year.

Temporary Lectureship in Geotechnical Engineering

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a fixed-term Lectureship in Geotechnical Engineering in the Department of Engineering. The successful candidate will take up the appointment on 1 October 2006. Candidates should have a proven record of scholarship and research in the area of Geotechnical Engineering, and will be expected to contribute directly to the research and teaching of the Geotechnical and Environmental Group, which forms part of the Civil, Structural, and Environmental Engineering Division. The Group enjoys an international reputation for high-quality, innovative, and industry-relevant research, and holds an EPSRC Platform Grant 'New technology and new horizons in Geotechnical R&D'. In addition, the post will involve contributing to the teaching of the undergraduate course in Civil Engineering, leading to the B.A. and M.Eng. Degrees. Willingness to teach site investigation and foundation engineering would be an advantage. The appointment will be for a fixed term of two years. The pensionable stipend will be in the range of £25,565 to £39,452 a year.
