ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATOR

Somerville College is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced person to the post of Academic Administrator with a view to taking up the appointment in August 2006. This is a senior position in the Academic Office, a small team which handles all of the College's academic administration, including admission of students, registration, induction, progress, examinations, and academic committees, under the direction of the Senior Tutor. The post offers a challenging opportunity to work with a wide range of people within and without the College, and to develop the Academic Office's procedures in support of Somerville's academic staff and c. 500 students.

The demands of the post require the post-holder to be educated to degree level, or be able to evidence previous experience working at a similar level. Experience of working in administration within a College or University environment is essential. The salary will be in the region of £27,000 a year (under review).

The successful candidate will have the ability to exercise a high degree of responsibility, initiative, and judgement, and excellent organization skills are essential. The post-holder must possess well-developed communication skills and demonstrate an understanding of negotiation and an awareness of the sensitivities of dealing with a variety of different constituencies within a university context, and an interest in contributing to the objectives of the College.
