University Office

Departmental Secretary, Grade C (Deputy Administrator), in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

Applications are invited for the half-time post of Deputy Administrator, to take up appointment as soon as possible. The Deputy Administrator will take responsibility for a range of administrative duties, including administration relating to contract research staff, committee servicing, and ad hoc projects.

Applicants (graduate level or equivalent) should be articulate, able to work on their own initiative, quick to learn, and should have good time-management capability with an enthusiastic and flexible approach to work. Excellent communication and IT skills are essential. Previous experience in an administrative role, preferably in higher education, would be an advantage.

The post is part-time (50% FTE). The office of Deputy Administrator is at the level of a Departmental Secretary, Grade C. The scale of stipends for the office is currently £24,352 rising by five annual incremental points to £30,002, pro rata. Starting salary will be dependent on experience.

Appointment to the office of Deputy Administrator will be to the retirement age, subject to a nine-month probation period.

Temporary Lectureship in Classical Chinese Studies

Applications are invited for a temporary Lectureship in Classical Chinese Studies to run from 1 October 2006 until 30 September 2007. Successful applicants must have a good publication record and experience in teaching classical Chinese, dynastic history, and/or pre-modern Chinese literature at undergraduate and (preferably) graduate level. Native or near-native fluency in English will be assumed.

The pensionable scale of stipends for a temporary Lecturer is currently £25,565 to £39,452 a year.
