ANDREAS IDREOS PROFESSORSHIP OF SCIENCE AND RELIGION

The Electors intend to proceed to an election to the Andreas Idreos Professorship of Science and Religion with effect from 1 October 2007, or earlier if possible. The Chair has been created by means of a munificent benefaction from Dr Andreas Idreos.

This interdisciplinary Professorship is devoted to research and teaching in (i) questions raised for Theology by the natural, human, and social sciences (including moral and social questions), and (ii) the impact of Theology on the natural, human, and social sciences.

A non-stipendiary Fellowship at Harris Manchester College is attached to the post.

WYKEHAM PROFESSORSHIP OF PHYSICS

Applications are invited for the above post, tenable from 1 October 2006, or such later date as may be arranged. A non-stipendiary Fellowship at New College is attached to the Professorship. The Wykeham Professorship of Physics is held in the Department of Physics in the Sub-Department of Theoretical Physics.

The University seeks to appoint a person with a record of internationally esteemed research in Theoretical Physics, in an area that overlaps and enhances the current research in the Sub-Department, and who, through leadership and the distinction of his or her contribution to the field, will ensure the continuing pursuit of excellence in teaching and research in Theoretical Physics at Oxford, and its wide recognition outside.
