University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £25,565 to £39,452 a year and for a University Senior Lecturer is currently £41,747 to £43,850 a year.

Four University Lectureships/University Senior Lectureships in the Faculty of History

The Faculty of History is seeking to make four appointments at University Lecturer/University Senior Lecturer level in the following fields with effect from 1 September 2006:

Three University Lectureships in the Department of Physics

Applications are invited for three University Lectureships in the Department of Physics. Applications are encouraged from all areas of physics. Appointments will be from 1 October 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter.

It is expected that some of these positions will be used to support a major thrust in the physics of quantum systems, viewed broadly to include optical physics, atomic physics, and condensed matter physics. The Department is also seeking strong candidates in experimental astrophysics and in experimental and phenomenological particle physics. These posts are additional to the three recently advertised positions in experimental quantum condensed matter, bio-medical, and soft matter physics.

Temporary Administrators in the Board of Graduate Studies

Applications are invited for the following temporary positions in the Board of Graduate Studies, to take up appointment as soon as possible:

(1) Graduate Admissions/Research Council Studentships Post

The post-holder will deputize for the Head of Graduate Admissions for two days a week, taking responsibility for all aspects of the management of the University's graduate admissions process. The post-holder will also be responsible for the central administration of Research Council studentships, including the management of Doctoral Training Grants. The post-holder will offer advice on graduate admissions and all matters related to studentships and will contribute to a web-based information service for graduate students. The appointment is limited to two years. The salary will be on the current scale of £23,182 to £30,002.

(2) Transferable Skills Training Co-ordinator

The post-holder will be responsible for co-ordinating the University's Transferable Skills Training programme, collaborating with a wide range of academic and administrative bodies across the University to foster good practice and ensure timely and efficient use of resources. He/she will be the key contact with the UK Research Councils, the Quality Assurance Agency and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), and with partner institutions in all matters relating to transferable skills training. The appointment is limited to one year. The salary will be on the current scale of £20,044 to £23,182.

Candidates should be graduates or equivalent, with relevant administrative experience, preferably in Higher Education.
