University Lecturers

Appointments made at University Lecturer level will be for a probationary period of five years, with appointment to the retiring age thereafter. The pensionable scale of stipends for a University Lecturer is currently £25,565 to £39,452 a year.

University Lectureship/Honorary Consultant in General Practice in the Clinical School

The General Practice and Primary Care Research Unit is seeking an able clinical academic general practitioner. The post-holder will develop a personal programme of research and provide the clinical research lead for the Unit which will add to its research reputation in the prevention of chronic disease and its consequences. He/she will also be expected to contribute to the teaching of undergraduate medical and M.Phil. epidemiology students, to supervise M.Phil. and Ph.D. students, to undertake clinical work, and to share in the administration of the Unit.

An honorary NHS consultancy in primary care medicine will be arranged with the Acute and/or Primary Care Trust as appropriate. Dual qualification in public health/epidemiology and general practice will be an advantage. Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period. The salary will be on the scale £69,298 to £93,768 a year, according to the level of seniority.

University Lectureship (Non-Clinical) in General Practice in the Clinical School

An outstanding medical sociologist or anthropologist is invited to join the General Practice and Primary Care Research Unit. The post-holder will lead a programme of research that complements and extends the Unit's programme on the prevention of chronic diseases and their consequences. He/she will also be expected to make a leadership contribution to the social science teaching strand for medical students and to supervise Masters and Ph.D. students.

University Lectureship in the Institute of Astronomy

Applications from suitably qualified candidates are invited for a University Lectureship in the Institute of Astronomy, from 1 October 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Institute is seeking to strengthen further its research in observational astronomy following the appointment of Professor Robert Kennicutt to the Plumian Professorship. Candidates in any field of astronomy relevant to the research interests of the Institute are encouraged to apply, but preference may be given to observational astronomers.

Applicants will be expected to have a record of excellence in research and an ability and enthusiasm for teaching. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the Institute's teaching programme.

University Lectureship in the Institute of Astronomy and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

Applications from suitably qualified candidates are invited for a University Lectureship which will be a joint appointment in the Institute of Astronomy and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. The successful candidate will have an established record of excellent research in an area of interest to both Departments, particularly theoretical cosmology or astrophysical fluid dynamics, and will be expected to contribute to the teaching programme in both Departments.

Three University Lectureships in the Faculty of Classics

Applications from suitably qualified candidates are invited for University Lectureships in the Faculty of Classics to take up appointment from 1 October 2006 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The first post is open to those with a primary research interest in any area of classical literature, where the Faculty has an exceptionally strong international reputation in all aspects of the subject, from textual criticism to cultural politics. There is a particular teaching need in Latin. The closing date for applications is 17 February.

The second post, which is offered in conjunction with the Faculty of History, is created by the retirement of Professor Peter Garnsey. It is open to those with a primary research interest in any field of Roman History; but there is a particular teaching need in Roman imperial history. The closing date for applications is 28 February.

The third post is open to those with a primary research interest in any field of classics, but the successful applicant will be expected to make a major contribution to the teaching of one of the classical sub-disciplines taught in the Faculty: ancient literature, philosophy, history, art and archaeology, linguistics, and interdisciplinary studies. Applications are invited for the post of Senior Assistant Registrary and Head of the Student Administration and Records Section of the Academic Division.

Candidates should be educated to degree level and have substantial relevant experience in senior administrative posts, including the management of change. The person appointed will be expected to lead the further development of the University's student administration system, building on the implementation of the Cambridge Student Information System (CamSIS).

Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to satisfactory completion of a probationary period. The pensionable salary for a Senior Assistant Registrary is currently £45,417 a year.

Departmental Secretary, Grade C, in the Department of Engineering

Applications are invited for the post of Departmental Secretary, Grade C, in the Manufacturing and Management Division of the Department of Engineering. The Division pursues an integrated approach to engineering, management, and policy in its teaching, research, and work with industry and Government.

The successful candidate will report to and work closely with the Head of the Division, with responsibilities for the day-to-day operation of the Division and oversight and development of the administrative framework and processes. The post is a focal point for the Division's many industrial, governmental, and international links and the post-holder will be closely involved with the evolution and delivery of Divisional policy within the broader context of the University and as part of the broader strategy for Engineering.

Candidates for this post should be educated to degree level or equivalent and have previous relevant experience ideally in industry as well as in higher education. The ability to work at the highest levels of Government and industry while supporting the strong and friendly community of students, academics, and industrialists in the Division are essential. The salary will be on the current scale of £24,352 to £30,002 a year. Appointment will be to the retiring age subject to the satisfactory completion of a probationary period.

This post is available for a fixed term of two years during the appointment of Dr Christopher Kelly to a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship. The post is open to those with a primary research interest in any field of Roman history who can teach a final year undergraduate course in either Late Antiquity or Roman Britain.
