Smuts Research Fellowship at the Centre of South Asian Studies: Notice

The Committee of Management of the Centre of South Asian Studies invites applications for a Smuts Research Fellowship in Commonwealth Studies tenable at the Centre for three years from 1 October 2006. The Fellowship is not renewable.

The successful applicant will be expected to pursue an approved programme of research relating to any of the countries within South and Southeast Asia which are members of the Commonwealth or which were formerly part of the British Empire. Candidates who are unsure of the eligibility of their proposed subject of research should consult the Director.

The person appointed will be expected either to have obtained a Ph.D. Degree (or equivalent degree) within the last five years or be at the point of submitting a doctoral dissertation by the time the appointment takes place. Short-listed candidates will be invited to submit a substantial piece of written work as part of their application. The salary for this post will be between £20,044 and £22,289 a year.
