Graces submitted to the Regent House on 7 December 2005

The Council submit the following Graces to the Regent House. These Graces, other than any which is withdrawn or for which a ballot is requested in accordance with the regulations for Graces of the Regent House (Statutes and Ordinances, p. 109), will be deemed to have been approved at 4 p.m. on Friday, 16 December 2005.

1. That Professor Sir John Baker, of St Catharine's College, be appointed one of the Septemviri to serve for two years from 1 January 2006.

2. That Dame Judith Mayhew Jonas, Provost of King's College, be appointed one of the Septemviri to serve for two years from 1 January 2006.

3. That Professor Dame Marilyn Strathern, Mistress of Girton College, be appointed one of the Septemviri for two years from 1 January 2006.

4. That the regulations for University Composition Fees be amended as follows:1

5. That, on the recommendation of the General Board, the Professorship of Inorganic Chemistry be retitled the Professorship of Chemistry.2

6. That, on the recommendation of the General Board, the BP Professorship of Organic Chemistry (1702) be retitled the BP Professorship of Chemistry (1702).2

7. That the British Petroleum Organic Chemistry Fund be retitled the British Petroleum Chemistry Fund and that all references to Organic Chemistry in the regulations for the Fund be replaced by references to Chemistry. 2

8. That the regulations for the Ethel Measures Fellowship in Veterinary Medicine Fund be amended as follows:3

Regulation 2.

By replacing in line 2 the words 'and the Heads of Divisions, the Professors,' by the words 'the Dean of the Veterinary School, the Director of Research in the Department of Veterinary Medicine,'.

9. That the recommendations of the Report of the General Board, dated 12 October 2005, on the merger of the Departments of Anatomy and Physiology into a single Department of Physiology, Development, and Neuroscience (Reporter, p. 64) be approved.4

In both cases, the current holders have expressed their support for the changes. In the case of the BP Professorship of Organic Chemistry (1702) and the British Petroleum Organic Chemistry Fund, BP have also agreed to the change.
